Mega Bucks Bonanza Part 1
Woke up early for a 2 hour drive and arrival at the track at 7:15 AM. Ignoring the previous nights battery problems, we breezed through scrutineering and auditing and made the standard 7SINS pre race checks and changes.
‘RXTONV’ RX3 made a welcome return to the track, with the help from Justin from Blacktrack Performance and Dyno, and Jon at RX Engineering. This car was a popular beast from the 90’s, but unfortunately for the team, broke an axle on the first pass. I’m sure this will be a short hurdle to jump, so we’ll see it again sooner than later. Our best qualifying run was 10.218 @ 144.04MPH.
We were trialling a new video camera set up on the roll cage, to take in car action shots, and after some trial and error, we had the elimination runs recorded via a couple of SD cards. Check out our footage in the gallery section.
First round saw us unfortunately up against another rotary of Russell Archer, despite being in a huge field of V8’s and straight 6’s. His RX4 managed a troubled 14.003 @ 110.11MPH against our backing off 11.747@ 92.19MPH, and the $50 dollar buy-back safely still in my pocket.
After a 2.5 hour wait, due to an unexpected 90% of racers using the buy-back into second round option, our second round fight was against racer #1458, a blue falcon. Lady luck was on our side again with another backing off win of 10.880 @ 116.6MPH.
Third round, 1.5 hours later, didn’t last very long for racers, as track officials put a holt to proceedings. We had actually performed our third pass, another win due to a red light by the ute of racer #5077, and were in the pit area, adding fuel to keep racing. Racers were required to meet at the start line, where it was announced that the track temperature had dropped too low, and dew was settling too quickly on the track surface. Conditions were too dangerous to keep racing and so the meeting was stopped and postponed for a later date. Interstate racers were naturally peeved at this outcome, and will work out alternative arrangements with WSID management.
Back on the trailer, we headed home to wait for the announcement date for the Mega Bucks Bonanza sequel.
Thanks to Justin at Blacktrack Performance and Jon at RX Engineering for their dedication to customers, and to my brother David who was my pit crew for the day, and has a new found respect for the hassle us drag racers go through just for a few seconds of fun!
